Tanzania has signed a $2.15 billion deal with Chinese firms to construct a 282-kilometer railway linking its main port in Dar es Salaam to a nickel mine in Burundi.
The project aims to boost nickel exports and enhance cross-border trade. Funded by a concessional loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB), this marks the bank's first involvement in Tanzania's railway projects.
Officials emphasized the strategic importance of the railway for regional trade and infrastructure development.
